John Fury hits out at son Tyson's "bulls***" claim about his boxing future

John Fury has played down reports his son Tyson will retire after his heavyweight title clash with Dillian Whyte next weekend.

Fury defends his WBC title against interim champion Whyte on April 23 at Wembley Stadium. 'The Gyspy King' recently admitted he has nothing more to gain from boxing and has more money than he would ever need, but his father thinks he still has a lot left in the tank.

"Bull****," John told talkSPORT of the retirement reports. "Tyson you know for a fact, he's as mad as a box of frogs. Where's he going to go without boxing? What's he gonna do? Empty some bins, go for some coffee, take his kids to school and read the paper? Come on. Take what Tyson says with a pinch of salt.

"I'm his father, I know what's what. Boxing's his life. He'll be boxing when he's 40-years-old. He'll sit at home for a few months and think 'this is it'. He'll want the smell of the gyms, blood sweat and tears, taste of the leather again."

Fury pondered retirement after knocking out Deontay Wilder in their trilogy last October despite having made a five-fight wishlist before the fight. There are still big fights to make for Fury, such as a potential undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk and a clash with longtime rival Anthony Joshua.

John thinks now is not the right time for Fury to hang up his gloves. The 57-year-old, who was called by Tyson to fight on the undercard of his title fight, explained why boxing is the "biggest addiction" to a fighter.

"It's a bigger addiction than any drug in the world to a fighter. Look at me, I'm still training now and I'm not the class of these boys. What's in your DNA you can't alter. He's a fighting man who's in the pinnacle of his job and he'll go as far as he can," John continued.

"I do believe this is not the right time to even contemplate stuff like that and I've told him. He just laughs. Tyson's the biggest wind-up merchant in the world, people should know him by now."

Tyson's clash with domestic rival Whyte marks the first time his father will be able to attend one of his fights in the last four years. John has been unable to travel to the US to watch Tyson fight because of a grievous bodily harm charge dating back to 2011.
