Tyson Fury’s father, John Fury, could be lured out of retirement to face a rival in a bare-knuckle boxing bout.
John Fury is undefeated in bare-knuckle boxing and used to make his living from the brutal sport in the 1980s.
He recently starred in ITV ’s documentary focused on his son and is credited with training the Gypsy King to become a world heavyweight champion.
And John Fury has now has accepted the challenge of facing former bodybuilding champion Micky Theo after he was called out earlier this year.
Promoter Jimmy Freeman, who is the face of fighting company BKB, hopes his brand will be able to facilitate the fight.
“We would be interested in staging the fight,” he said. “If it’s going to happen, it’s better that it goes ahead in a controlled environment with rules and a referee.”
The rivalry between Fury, 55, and Theo, 56, began after the former challenged UFC president Dana White to a bout in March.
Theo took issue with Fury’s claim that he was the fittest man of his age in the world, saying in a YouTube video: “I’m 56 years of age and I believe I’m fitter than John.
“I believe I could beat you in a proper boxing match.”
And in response on iFL TV, Fury accepted the challenge, saying: “Just replying to a video I’ve just seen there. A bodybuilder wants to fight me. That ain’t no problem mate, don’t know you, don’t wanna know you.
“But let me tell you something, mate, you’re messing with John Fury here mate and I am the best 50-odd-year-old man in the world. And I will stand on what I say, mate.
“I’ll either fight you in the ring, which you can forget about that one pal, I’ve fought world-class men in my time.
“Let me tell you this my old mate, I will fight you gypsy style, don’t you worry about that.
“I have never, ever denied a challenge in my life my friend. You’ve mentioned my name, you’ve gotta fight now.”
