John Farnham's family says singer is 'awake and responding well' after cancer surgery

Singer John Farnham remains in hospital after surgery last week to remove a cancerous tumour in his mouth.

The performer's wife Jill Farnham said in a statement that the 73-year-old was still in intensive care following the procedure.

"John remains in a stable condition in ICU following the removal of a cancerous tumour in his mouth on Tuesday," she said.

"He is awake and responding well to the care he's receiving."

Farnham was in surgery for 11-and-a-half hours, and his family said the procedure had been successful.

The singer's family has also endorsed a dedicated website where people can leave messages of goodwill for Farnham, who is not active on social media.

Messages left at weloveyoujohn.com.au will be saved and shared with the family when they have a chance to read them.

The website is backed by entertainment reporters Angela Bishop, Peter Ford and Richard Wilkins, as well as ABC News Breakfast.

Jill Farnham and the pair's sons Rob and James Farnham last week thanked the hospital staff who were taking care of the singer.

"We are in awe of the incredible teams of healthcare professionals who have guided us through this very challenging time with such compassion," they said.

"To all the surgeons, doctors, nurses and consultants — thank you one and all so very much."

News of Farnham's cancer diagnosis prompted an outpouring of well wishes across the country, including from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.

Farnham's family said they were overwhelmed by the "incredible wave of support".
