John Boyega reveals he’s been calling co-star Jamie Foxx after actor suffered medical issue on set

John Boyega has revealed that he’s been trying to get in touch with his co-star Jamie Foxx after the American actor sustained a medical issue in April.

Boyega, 31, stars opposite the Oscar winner in the forthcoming Netflix film They Cloned Tyrone.

The 55-year-old was notably absent from the film’s premiere in Miami Beach on Thursday as he continues his recovery from an undisclosed health issue.

Speaking about Foxx on the red carpet, the British actor shared his support for Foxx and wished him a speedy recovery.

As reported by Deadline, the Star Wars actor shared: “I wanted him to show up here, but you know, I know he’s dealing with what he’s dealing with, and we just wish him all the best.”

The London native also explained how he has been trying unsuccessfully to get in touch with Foxx, insisting that he won’t stop calling until Foxx answers.

He added: “I’ve been calling, I’m just gonna keep on calling. He better pick up. Come on, Jamie!”

Their co-star Teyonah Parris, best known for her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Monica Rambeau, also paid tribute to Foxx, who she said brought “such an energy to the set”.

The 35-year-old said: “I wish Jamie all the recovery and healing,” she said. “He’s just so amazing. It was such an honour to work with him. He’s so generous as an actor and as a human, along with John.

“I got lucky to be able to work with such dope men on this project, and dope men of colour, that it was just so much fun.”

In April, it was revealed that the actor had experienced an unspecified medical incident on set of his new film with Cameron Diaz, Back In Action.

Foxx had convinced Diaz to come out of retirement for the project after she had paused her acting career in 2014. His medical issue arose two weeks before the project ended. As such, the production team had to use body doubles to complete the remaining scenes.

Last month, his daughter, Corinne Foxx, confirmed that her father was out of hospital.

“My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating,” the statement read. “In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!”

Foxx had previously shared a message to his fans on social media saying he appreciated “all the love” and was “feeling blessed”.
