John Bostock pinpoints Luke Williams moment that swayed Notts County transfer

John Bostock pinpointed the morning of Notts County's National League clash with Yeovil Town as something he had never seen before in his professional career.

The Magpies announced the signing of the 30-year-old former Nottingham Forest loan midfielder on Wednesday morning, putting pen to paper on an 18-month contract at Meadow Lane.

While the signing of Bostock is considered a real coup for the National League leaders, the midfielder explained how impressed he was with the attention to detail boss Luke Williams showed during his two-week training period with the club.

Ahead of the Magpies' record-breaking fixture with Yeovil last month, Bostock revealed that the Notts boss had him in training on the morning of the game, talking tactics and being solely invested in his welfare.

"Honestly, with the gaffer I was really, really surprised if I am honest," he said.

"Just the attention to detail, the way he sees football and how clearly he gets his message across.

"There have been times when I have played at clubs during my career where a player or a team might go into a game with question marks and wondering what to do in certain positions.

"But I don't see that here. Everyone is comfortable here, obviously they have been working together since the summer, but there is no guess work.

"I'll give one example; it was before I signed for the game against Yeovil which was one of the biggest games for the attendance, the club were trying to break the record in the National League.

"And that morning, he had me come in that morning with Jim (O'Brien). Himself and the staff had one on one sessions with me in the morning, and I thought, this has never happened to me before.

"My manager is normally focused on the game, but he is there with his boots on and talking to me about tactics and how the midfield was supposed to build up, and it spoke volumes to me."

Bostock will provide a wealth of football league experience for Williams' side as they travel to Maidenhead this weekend, looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league to 13 games.

Having played for a number of EFL clubs across his 15-year career, Bostock intends to use his experience both on and off the pitch to ensure the Magpies achieve their goal of promotion this season.

"We have a very young, hungry squad. It is a good balance to be fair because we have got some experienced players that have played in the league before," said Bostock.

"I am happy to offer my thoughts and the way I see the game in terms of day-to-day application to the younger players that are starting off their careers as well with dreams and aspirations to go on and have successful careers.

"Even over the past years, I have been very hands on in mentoring players as well and helping players on the pitch, but especially off it with their mindset.

"I think communication is key, but I also want to lead by example.

"Football is not always plain sailing, there are a lot of ups and downs, and if I can try to be a positive figure within the squad, then I will do that for sure, and on the pitch, I will try and bring my qualities to the performances."
