Comedian John Bishop has said he is experiencing a “pain like no other” following the sudden death of his beloved mother Kathy.
Bishop, 56, shared the horrible news of his mother’s passing on Instagram, posting a picture of the two of them together.
It comes just two weeks after Kathy was seen singing along at a pantomime performance of Mother Goose at the Liverpool Empire in which her son was starring.
In the post, the star wrote: “Two weeks ago my Mum came to see me in Mother Goose in Liverpool and joined in the singalong at the end as I knew she would.
“This morning we said goodbye to her and we will never hear her sing again. As a family we are heartbroken. She was a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother and she loved us all. Next week she would have been married to my Dad for 62 years and they had a love and a friendship that was beautiful to be around.
“We want to thank all of the brilliant staff at Whiston Hospital on ward 3C who could not have done more and provided exceptional care for us all.”
He continued: “Anyone who has lost a parent will understand when I say it is a pain like no other.
“I will never have another mother but I will be eternally grateful for being lucky enough to have had the one I did. Good night Mum, you were our sunshine.”
Bishop also posted a video of his mother singing along at Mother Goose.
It is understood that the comedian will be taking some compassionate leave following Kathy’s death and he will be missing some performances of the show.
Fans and famous faces wrote messages of sympathy to Bishop under the post.
Musician Jules Holland wrote: “We send all love and sincere condolences xx.” Comedian Alan Carr added: “Oh John. So sorry for your loss.”
