John Bercow tipped for I'm A Celeb as ex-MP pal says he could be seen in new light

John Bercow has been urged to go into the I’m a Celebrity Jungle to prove he’s not a "demon", according to his pal and former MP Lembit Opik.

Lembit - who went on the ITV show in 2010 -says: "If I could offer John one piece of advice it would be to call up ITV and say 'I’m an ex Speaker get me into there!'

"My advice to ITV is 'Bid For Bercow' because he’s a helluva Speaker and he’s good for pithy one-liners.

"I think he would be a must-have contestant on I’m A Celebrity! I’d love to see if he could keep order - or should I say Order Order! - in the jungle….and how he’d deal with votes he couldn’t control!"

He adds: "I reckon viewers would be pleasantly surprised by John because they’d realise that he’s no demon; rather he’s a great character.

"A very strong character admittedly, which might well wind his camp mates up, but hey that makes good television."

Lembit was LibDem MP for Montgomeryshire in Wales for 13 years until 2010, the year he went into the Jungle and was voted out second following a famous clash wit Nigel Havers.

Lembit now appears on GB News.

This week the former Commons speaker refused to apologise despite receiving a life-time ban from holding a parliamentary pass after being found to be a “serial bully” and a liar.

An independent inquiry said on Tuesday that he would have been expelled from the House if he was still a sitting MP after upholding 21 separate allegations.

Bercow described the investigation as a "travesty of justice" before refusing to make any "faux apologies", insisting he has nothing to say sorry for.
