Lorraine viewers were left baffled on Tuesday after John Barrowman seemingly switched up his accent to Scottish.
The 54-year-old entertainer joined ITV’s Lorraine Kelly – and social media were quick to highlight his dialect shift. While Barrowman is technically Scottish-American – being born in Glasgow but moving to Illinois at the age of eight – this isn’t the first time fans have picked up on his indecisive accent choice. Barrowman told Lorraine, “This is how I speak at home to Scottish people. I have no control over my voice. I have no control over it. It is like being bilingual.”
One viewer took to Twitter and said, “Why can't John Barrowman never make up his mind whether he’s Scottish or not?”
While another added, “Sitting watching morning tv and that John Barrowman is all of a sudden talking in a Scottish accent, what’s all that about?”
One frustrated viewer wrote, “I know John Barrowman is Scottish but nothing annoys me more than his Scottish accent.”

Barrowman was removed as a Dancing on Ice judge earlier this year following allegations of improper conduct on the BBC Doctor Who set.
In May, he said: “My high-spirited behaviour which was only ever intended in good humour to entertain colleagues on set and backstage has been well-documented, including in my autobiographies and even in song.
“There were a couple of times during filming where I’d resort to tomfoolery, but none of this was ever intended nor interpreted as being sexual in nature.
“With the benefit of hindsight, I understand that upset may have been caused by my exuberant behaviour and I have apologised for this previously. Since my apology in November 2008, my understanding and behaviour have also changed.
“At no point was I ever made aware of any sexual harassment, bullying, or sexually predatory behaviour on set and I was certainly not aware of the allegations about Noel Clarke.”
