John Barnes believes Raphinha would be a perfect fit to join his former club Liverpool.
The Leeds talisman has been a rare highlight in an otherwise disappointing campaign for Marcelo Bielsa’s men - bagging nine goals to put him top of the goalscoring charts.
Rumours have circulated since last summer over the Brazilian’s future, with his agent - former Barcelona and Portugal superstar Deco - confirming the Reds’ interest in December.
Deco put his client in the shop window by declaring that he wants to take a ‘step up’ since becoming a regular fixture for Brazil.
The fact that Leeds are plunged in a relegation battle and spent nothing in January is unlikely to entice Raphinha to Elland Road in the long haul, with a host of top clubs ready to pounce if he does signal his intention to leave.
Ex-Liverpool forward Barnes thinks his dynamic playing style makes him tailor-made for Jurgen Klopp’s heavy-metal Liverpool side.
Speaking to BonusCodesBets, he said: “If teams like Leeds have a superstar player, as Leeds do with Raphinha, then it’s easy to see them moving on.
“I could see Raphinha playing for Liverpool more so than any other team because of his dynamism. Manchester City would look for a more technical player, but because of the way Liverpool play it will suit him.
“Leeds fans would want him to stay, but if a big offer came in, he would leave.”
