Joey Veerman warns Rangers 'we'll get you next week' as former Ibrox transfer target reveals PSV’s ears hurt

Joey Veerman has warned Rangers that PSV Eindhoven are “going to get them next week” after admitting the Dutch side were hurting at only leaving Glasgow with a draw in a pulsating Champions League playoff first leg ding-dong.

The long-time Ibrox target starred for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s classy Eredivise outfit and believes they should have picked up a crucial victory to take back across the North Sea for next week’s return in the Philips Stadium. Veerman was linked with a move to Rangers stretching back to Steven Gerrard’s time in charge at Ibrox and it continued when Gio van Bronckhorst succeeded the former Liverpool and England captain, with the Dutch connection considered an advantage.

But the former Heerenveen man opted to stay in Holland and signed for Dutch giants PSV and after the 2-2 draw in Glasgow, the 23-year-old had a warning for the Light Blues. He told RTL7: “We should have won, so this hurts a bit. What prevails now is that we are going to get them next week.

"We will take a good result with us, but I have the feeling that if we had taken our chances in Glasgow, the tie would already have been over."

Ibrahima Sangare gave the Dutchmen a first-half lead before Antonio Colak almost immediately fired back to level matters. A 30-yard Tom Lawrence free-kick was bungled by PSV keeper Walter Benitez after the break to put the home side on course for a huge victory. But their hopes of taking an advantage to the Phillips Stadium were dashed by Armando Obispo's equaliser just 12 minutes from time.

Veerman continued: “In the second part of the first half we had a hard time. But in the second half we had them under pressure and they didn't know what to do at all, we have to build on that. The atmosphere was beautiful here, it just kind of hurts your ears when they're all screaming. We want that in Eindhoven next week too.”
