Who says the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine can’t be a family affair?
Former Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. took part in testing this week with the defensive backs eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft. His father, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter, was there to cheer him on.
Porter Jr. looks to follow in his dad’s footsteps in the NFL. The two shared a special moment in an interview on Friday where the younger Porter got to talk about how much his father means to him.
The elder Porter recalled in the interview his son being a youngster who would want his dad to play catch with him when he got home from work.
“I’m just glad to have him in my corner, in my ear,” Porter Jr. shared about his dad. “He’s just telling me, from day one, just be you at the end of the day. Teams [are going to fall] in love with your character and how you carry yourself. So that’s what I really just held close to me.”

Now, he gets to watch Porter Jr. chase after his NFL dreams.
“For it to be full circle, us being here, it’s amazing,” Porter shared. “I’m lost for words at times. I’m always a big talker, but [I’m] really humbled in this situation to be here with my son in this opportunity.”
Porter Jr. is a projected first-round pick who could very easily wind up with his dad’s team in Pittsburgh. The Steelers could use a corner, as they will see cornerback Cam Sutton enter free agency if he does not re-sign with Pittsburgh.
