Joey Logano is “mad at something” after every Cup race this year

The reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano has experienced a rollercoaster start to the season, hoping to claim his fourth title in 2025.

The Team Penske driver led 43 laps before crashing out of the Daytona 500 due to an argument over space between Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and himself. At Atlanta, he led 34 laps before fading late and finishing 12th. He didn't lead any laps at COTA, but he was in contention for a top-ten before Todd Gilliland punted him to a 24th-place result. And at Phoenix, he started from the front row and led 33 laps before an early restart violation derailed his entire day.

"Frustrating is the one word that comes to mind," said Logano when reflecting on the start of his title defense. "I think I've left the race track every single weekend mad at something. Which is -- that's part of racing sometimes."

However, Logano does have some things to be proud of. His 207 laps led this year is the most of any driver, and he would much rather focus on the positives despite the disappointing outcomes.

"You've also got to move on quickly and you also got to look at what you've done well," continued Logano.

On the bright side

"And as a team, we've done great at leading laps. We've been towards the front, we're tied for seventh in points which shows we've scored a lot of stage points. So even though the finishes aren't there, we've been able to run up front enough to score the stage points and to be able to be in contention. So there's some positives there. It's not like we're just slow. It's just something has happened every race so far.

"That part is frustrating in a way because it also feels like you're not taking full advantage of the opportunities ahead of you because you've had race cars and you really haven't been able to convert but that's also sometimes just how racing goes and you have to learn from your lessons and keep going."

Well, Logano will have a great shot at turning things around this weekend and not just because he has the most wins of any active driver here at 4. The driver of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford also rolls off on the outside of the front row in second on the grid.
