Joelinton's booking concern but only red card vs Liverpool will see him miss Carabao Cup final

Joelinton can rest easy going into the clash with Liverpool next weekend knowing that a yellow card will not result in Wembley heartbreak - but he is at risk of a two-game ban in the Premier League.

The Newcastle United star picked up a yellow card for a foul late in the game at Bournemouth last night and kicked the air in frustration. But only a red card against Liverpool would see him banned for the Carabao Cup final in two weeks time.

Joelinton is now on nine bookings for the season with a further caution before game 32 of the season in the Premier League resulting in a two match stint in the sin bin. The only danger for the ex-Hoffenheim star would be if he was sent off next weekend against the Reds - as would any of United's stars with dismissals applying to all competitions.

A red card dismissal for a professional foul or second bookable offence results in a one-match ban and dangerous play or violent conduct results in three-match bans. Despite initial fears Joelinton was a booking away from a costly suspension, top-flight chiefs have confirmed he is fine providing Joelinton isn't red carded next week.
