Joel Matip's brother Marvin and pregnant wife 'forced to flee' as tear gas used on fans

Joel Matip's brother Marvin and his pregnant wife were reportedly forced to flee for safety after fans were tear-gassed outside the Stade de France ahead of the Champions League final.

According to Sky Sport Germany, Marvin and his wife were trying to gain access to the stadium to watch Matip in action for Liverpool against Real Madrid when they became caught up in the chaos.

The couple were forced to take refugee inside a restaurant, with Marvin telling Sky Sport: "The organisation around and in the stadium is unworthy of a Champions League final! Using tear gas in areas with children and uninvolved fans is dangerous."

The Champions League final has been delayed by 36 minutes due to Liverpool fans being unable to get inside the ground in Paris, with huge queues building up in the streets surrounding the stadium.

"It is so sad and obviously everything has to be military precision out there," said Michael Owen. "We don't know what's gone on, but it is sad to hear. You just hope everyone is safe."

"We pray for people's safety," said Rio Ferdinand. "You come to football to be entertained." Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard. "You just hope there are no issues out there and everyone gets home safely."

Alan Shearer said on BBC 5 Live: "We have to hope that everyone outside is OK. For the players, their preparation is meticulous to the minute. They have warmed up and their day has been designed for kick-off at a certain time."
