Liverpool’s injury problems have worsened with the news that both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip are set to miss the next fortnight.
Both players were substituted in Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal with Alexander-Arnold withdrawn with an ankle problem at half-time after a collision with Gabriel Martinelli.
Matip was substituted in the second half for Ibrahima Konate and the change was not a tactical one. The centre-back has suffered a calf problem with Anfield sources expecting the defender to miss between two to three weeks.

It means Konate is line for his first start of the season at Ibrox on Wednesday night as the Reds return to action in Group A of the Champions League against Rangers.
Joe Gomez is also set to deputise for Alexander-Arnold as the regular right-back nurses the ankle issue picked up after he was stood on by Martinelli as the Arsenal man crossed in the first period at the Emirates.
As a result, Jurgen Klopp heads to to Glasgow with his fitness problems considerably worse than they were at the weekend after Luis Diaz was ruled out until after the World Cup with a knee injury picked up at Arsenal.
The winger is likely to miss 10 games after picking the injury up in a clash with Thomas Partey but crucially does not need surgery. He is not expected to feature for Liverpool until late December, however.
Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are yet to play this season but Curtis Jones is potentially in line for a recall to the squad having returned to training last week.
