Joel Glazer gets involved in Cristiano Ronaldo spat after he attacked Man Utd owners

Joel Glazer is set to have the final say on Cristiano Ronaldo's future in the wake of the Portuguese superstar's stunning attack on the Manchester United co-owner and his family.

Ronaldo targeted a number of high-profile figures at Old Trafford during an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, which has gone viral in recent days. The full 90-minute chat, which was not sanctioned by the club, is due to air over the course of Wednesday and Thursday.

After initially claiming he felt "betrayed" and taking aim at Erik ten Hag, Ronaldo also hit out at the Glazer family; insisting that United's unpopular owners do not care about the club.

The 37-year-old's position at United is now believed to be considered untenable in the wake of his latest misdemeanour - which comes just weeks after he refused to come on as a substitute during a match against Tottenham and stormed off in a strop before the conclusion of the game.

A fresh report from Associated Press, via The Guardian, outlines that a source with knowledge of the situation has confirmed that Glazer will 'make the final decision' over Ronaldo's future.

It has also been confirmed that the club have been 'supportive' of Ten Hag's handling of the former Juventus star after he was dropped from the team and ordered to train away from the first-team squad as a result of his meltdown against Spurs last month.

Ronaldo still has six months remaining on the lucrative two-year deal he inked with United last summer but remains keen on a move away.

He failed to engineer a switch in the summer transfer window in the wake of United's calamitous Premier League campaign last year, and the onus will be on his agent, Jorge Mendes, to find a potential suitor willing to take him on once the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Mirror Football also understands that the club are currently taking legal advice and could even look into sacking the five-time Ballon d'Or winner in the wake of his astonishing rant.

Remarkably, the club are unaware of further bombshells that could potentially be dropped by Ronaldo when the full interview with Morgan is released over the coming days - something they alluded to in an official statement acknowledging the initial clips that were released by Talk TV on Sunday night.

A statement which was released on Monday morning read: "Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo. The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.

"Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff and fans."
