Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid might have made the block of the year in NBA thanks to an incredible bit of defensive work against the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Sixers needed MVP contender Embiid to shine in the game against fellow championship contenders the Grizzlies, as Ja Morant continues to elevate his team in the western conference.
But it was Embiid who got the better of Morant on Thursday night, with the Cameroonian star dominating throughout proceedings with 27 points, 19 rebounds and six assists in an incredible showing during the 110-105 win.
It was one play in particular that stole the show though, with Embiid showing Morant exactly why he should be a candidate to win the league's best player of the year award.
In the fourth quarter with just over a minute to go with one point between the sides, Morant was given a screen which allowed him to drive to the basket and attempt to dunk to give the Grizzlies the lead.
As he looked like he was about to dunk the ball home, Embiid produced a moment of defensive magic by leaping massively into the air to block Morant.
The Sixers would go onto win the game with Embiid scoring a late bucket, and James Harden scoring in the dying seconds to cap off another incredible solo performance as he scored 31 points. Thousands have reacted to the play, with one fan saying: "That's an MVP play right there."
It was an important win for the Sixers as they attempt to close in on the top spot in the eastern conference, battling with the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks.
It's been a three-horse race between the Sixers, Bucks and Celtics in the last few years, with the the latter two competing in the NBA finals in the last two campaigns.
The Sixers, after trading for Harden, now look to be in a good place to compete for a finals spot in the weakened eastern conference after the Brooklyn Nets traded away their superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Durant was traded to the Phoenix Suns with Irving being shipped to the Dallas Mavericks.
