Joel Dommett tipped to 'poach' Phillip Schofield's job after ITV exit

Joel Dommett is being tipped to replace Phillip Schofield in a high profile role on ITV, following the presenter's controversial exit from the channel.

A week after announcing on Instagram that he was leaving his 21 year job as This Morning host, Phillip then admitting to an affair with a young This Morning runner. In a statement, the 61-year-old apologised for lying to ITV colleagues, his agents, lawyers and family, with him then leaving the broadcaster with immediate effect and being dropped by his agents.

In the same statement he released when he confirmed his This Morning departure, Phillip assured fans that he would be back on screen to host the British Soap Awards but that is no longer the case. And its Masked Singer presenter Joel, who has also had a turn at hosting This Morning, who is being tipped to land the big TV gig, ahead of the ceremony this weekend.

The former I'm A Celebrity finalist is currently 2/1 with William Hill to front the Soap Awards, ahead of Alan Carr (3/1) and Bradley Walsh (11/2).

Talking about the contenders to take over from Phillip, William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “Following Phillip Schofield’s departure from ITV last week, we make Joel Dommett the favourite to host this year’s British Soap Awards in Manchester on Saturday.

“Dommett is the 2/1 frontrunner with us to be awarded hosting honours for Saturday’s ceremony having impressed in other ITV programmes throughout the years."

He added: “Should the baton fall to someone else, Alan Carr (3/1) and Bradley Walsh (11/2) are the other most likely candidates in the betting to host in Schofield’s absence.”
