Joel Dommett pulls out of Comic Relief with Covid as he reveals replacement

Joel Dommett has been forced to pull out of his Comic Relief hosting duties.

The presenter - who hosts The Masked Singer and also starred on I'm A Celebrity - has been struck down with Covid, meaning he will be unable to host the charity show on Friday.

He has confirmed who will replace him in the presenting line-up for the Red Nose Day spectacular, which also includes Lenny Henry, Alesha Dixon, David Tennant, Zoe Ball, AJ Odudu and Paddy McGuiness amongst others.

"Super annoyed to report that I have the vid. This unfortunately means I have to pull out of hosting @comicrelief," he wrote in a post on Instagram as he drew over a photograph of him in the hosting line-up.

Joel also announced that a fellow I'm A Celebrity star would be replacing him on this Friday's live show - Vernon Kay.

He added: "My incredible replacement is the better looking, more talented @vernonkay who is ace. I’ll be watching from home donating loads of money like everyone else!"

Vernon also confirmed his presenting stint on the programme on his own Instagram account.

Comic Relief's official Instagram account was one of the first to wish Joel a speedy recovery.

They wrote: "We’ll miss you Joel, feel better soon. And we’re excited to see you @vernonkay," whilst one of his co-presenters Zoe Ball added: " feel better damn. boo no you! hooray for Kay ( @vernonkay )."

"I love you. Hope you feel better soon," Vicky Pattison penned under Joel's post.

Legendary comic legends Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders will reunite for Comic Relief next month, where they will take part in a sketch with The Repair Shop's Jay Blades.

"I don’t think we’ve ever said no to Comic Relief because it just is too important, and because it’s from our community and we were there right at the very beginning," Dawn explained.

"I know that the money is spent correctly, and I know that there are projects that are ongoing that need us to be ongoing and I wouldn’t ever want to let anyone down, so I think the more that we can do to boost and support, the better!"
