Former Rangers loan star Joe Worrall admits he thought he was being pranked by Steven Gerrard when he was asked to head to Ibrox.
The Nottingham Forest skipper spent the 2018/19 season away from his boyhood club as he learned the ropes under the Liverpool icon in Glasgow. Worrall, at times, impressed but also experienced growing pains during his time in Scotland. But it helped him emerge as a bonafide star at his hometown club.
And he has opened up, for the first time, on the call which led him to Rangers and how he thought he was at the middle of an elaborate ruse. Speaking on Sky Sports' The Big Interview, he said: “My loan at Rangers, I’m so, so thankful for. I loved my time up there, unbelievable football club. The size of it, Steven Gerrard being the manager was a massive pull.
"I thought it was a prank call. He’s my hero. I loved watching him as a player, it was unbelievable to play for him. I did find it tough, a long way from Nottingham and I’m a big home boy. Massive learning curve at Rangers.”
Worrall is now in aiming to guide Forest up the Premier League table after Steve Cooper secured 20 new signings during the summer window.
