Joe Westerman's wife has reportedly 'split' from the disgraced rugby league star who was at the centre of a sex act scandal with another woman.
The 33-year-old rugby player apologised to his family in a statement released by Castleford Tigers on Tuesday night as the club handed him a 'substantial fine' and ordered him to carry out community service.
His wife and mother of their three children Lauren Westerman was reportedly sent a copy of the graphic sex act video before it was leaked online. Mrs Westerman confirmed on Twitter that it was not her in the video and later said she had not spoken to her husband about the video, when speaking to Mail Online.
The Sun is now reporting that Mrs Westerman has split with her husband, telling friends: "The marriage is over and he knows that. There's no way you can come back after something so horrific.
"It is one trillion per cent finished. What kind of example would I be setting to my children - particularly my girls - if I were to give it another go?
"I want them to know that this is not alright, that it isn't acceptable behaviour in a relationship and that we all have self-worth. He's text me a few times to say how sorry he is but he knows that there's no coming back from what he's done.
Castleford Tigers have ordered Westerman to complete community service, which will include educating “young people on the effects of alcohol” as well as the “dangers of social media when in the public eye”.
The club are preparing for their opening Super League match against Hull FC on Sunday and Westerman was seen reporting to training today.
The loose forward started his career with Castleford, making 103 appearances before moving on to play for Hull FC in 2011. He returned to his home-town club and signed a two-year deal from the 2022 season. He also has two England caps to his name.
Westerman apologised for the sex act video in a statement on Tuesday night. He said: "Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly apologise to my family and friends for my actions.
"I’d also like to apologise to the supporters, sponsors, staff, and directors of Castleford Tigers as well as my team-mates. I’d like to extend this apology to the game of rugby league, and I have realised that I need to work on my decision-making around alcohol.”
