By now, Cincinnati Bengals fans already know Joe Burrow played a big role in the team signing offensive tackle La’el Collins.
Don’t forget Joe Mixon, though.
Mixon happens to share an agent with Collins. Said agent, Peter Schaffer, actually looped Mixon into the conversation with Bengals decision-makers while trying to iron out a deal for Collins over the weekend.
Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com dropped the nugget:
“Mixon is now 2-0 as an upstairs lobbyist. Last year he pushed hard for the re-hiring of Pollack and Schaffer said he patched in his client for a couple of seconds on his conference call with Bengals management this weekend so he could say his piece in support of the big man.”
Indeed, Mixon was not happy when the Bengals let go of Pollack the first time around and played a big role in his return.
And on the topic of Collins, it certainly doesn’t hurt Mixon’s outlook that Collins will man the right tackle spot for the next three years. Collins is part of a three-man upgrade to what will easily be the best offensive line Mixon’s worked behind in his pro career.
While Burrow understandably made the big headlines, Mixon was right there behind the scenes letting Bengals brass know that landing Collins was the right move.
