In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, actor Joe Manganiello revealed some interesting insights into his potential involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While fans had been hoping to see him return as Flash Thompson, a character he previously portrayed in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, it seems that opportunity has passed. However, Manganiello did mention that there was a chance for him to join the MCU in one of Taika Waititi's Thor movies.
Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, Manganiello was unable to take part in the Thor film that Waititi had considered him for. He expressed disappointment at not being able to make his reappearance in the Marvel Universe through that particular project. Although he did not specify the character he would have played, this revelation suggests that he is open to playing a larger role in the MCU.
The possibility of seeing Manganiello as Flash Thompson or his alter-ego Agent Venom had excited fans, especially with the introduction of the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, the character of Flash has already been portrayed by Tony Revolori in the current iteration of the Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland. As a result, it seems unlikely that older versions of Flash Thompson will be reintroduced to the franchise.
Revolori's portrayal of Flash Thompson in Spider-Man: Homecoming brought a fresh take to the character, following in the footsteps of Manganiello and Chris Zylka. All three actors have explored Flash's evolution from being a bully to becoming a friend or associate of Peter Parker. Interestingly, Zylka's portrayal in Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man movies came close to potentially delving into the Agent Venom storyline before the franchise was discontinued.
Although there is still a possibility for Revolori's Flash to become Agent Venom in the future, it is uncertain given the MCU's intention to streamline its output. The mid-credits scene in No Way Home hinted at the symbiote's presence in the MCU, but its future trajectory and possible host remain unknown. What is clear, however, is that Manganiello will not be involved in that storyline.
For those who want to revisit Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, featuring Manganiello's portrayal of Flash Thompson, the films can be found streaming on Disney+.
While the door may have closed for Manganiello to reprise his role as Flash Thompson in the MCU, fans can still appreciate his past contributions to the superhero genre. As Marvel continues to expand and introduce new characters, it will be interesting to see where the journey takes us. Perhaps there are other exciting opportunities on the horizon for the talented actor to join the Marvel Universe in a different capacity. Only time will tell.
