Joe Lycett investigated by police as fan raises complaint over joke

A fan called the police on Joe Lycett after being "offended" by one of his jokes.

Comedian Joe Lycett had some surprise visitors at his house in Birmingham after a joke in his stand-up set didn't go down too well with one member of the audience. It appears one of his punchlines annoyed a punter so much they rang the police on Joe.

The Sewing Bee host posted two screenshots on social media, one of a police email and his statement on the situation. The statement said: "So someone came to my tour show a few weeks back and was offended by one of the jokes. And their perfectly understandable response was to.... call the f*****g police.

"To be fair to them, the fuzz were very nice about it all but felt they had a duty to investigate. This involved me writing a statement explaining the context of the joke to them; I particularly enjoyed putting the words ‘giant donkey d***' into a message to a police detective."

He added: "Charmed, and hopefully amused, the rozzers have since closed the matter. You’ll be pleased to know that the joke – which I consider to be one of the best I’ve ever written – remains firmly and proudly in the show. The tour continues until September, unless I am jailed."

Fans naturally found the situation hysterical and flocked to Joe's side as they flooded the comment section with laughing emojis and disbelief.
