Joe Hart has labelled former Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane a "lunatic" as he detailed what sets the England captain apart from his peers and makes him the "perfect" player.
The former Three Lions number one is currently enjoying life at Celtic having joined the Scottish giants from Spurs last summer. The 34-year-old spent one season alongside Kane in North London but a lack of game-time saw him make the move up north.
During his solitary campaign with Tottenham, Hart saw the England striker at close quarters and has since admitted his awe at just how good Kane is. The former Spurs stopper highlighted how he believes the 28-year-old's "mentality and work-ethic" are the factors behind his continued success and referred to him as a "lunatic" for still improving.
Speaking about his time at Tottenham on the In The Stiffs podcast, Hart revealed: "The best finisher there was Kane and best player there is him. I was with him for three years previously with England and thought he was awesome, a top player, but he really is a top player.
"I saw him three years later and it wasn’t just because I was with him every day it’s because this lunatic is still improving. He’s still getting better because of his mentality and work-ethic.
"He’s a phenom. Some people when they have good days they’re unplayable. When he has a good day he’s actually perfect. His heading, his pass, his touch, his finishing. He’s [as good as I’ve played with] and I’ve played with some good ones!"
Is Harry Kane the best striker in world football right now? Let us know in the comments section.
Kane is revered as one of the greatest strikers in world football at present having struck a staggering 243 goals in 377 appearances for Tottenham since making his debut back in 2009. In addition to his exploits at club level, Kane's recent winner in England's friendly over Switzerland saw him equal Bobby Charlton on 49 goals for the Three Lions, to put him a mere four strikes behind the nation's all-time record goalscorer Wayne Rooney.
It remains to be seen whether Kane will be embroiled in another transfer tug-of-war come the end of the season, having starred in the saga of last summer. The free-scoring Tottenham forward was reportedly the subject of £100million bid from current Premier League champions Manchester City.
Kane was understood to have held a gentleman's agreement with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy over the prospect of a transfer, after admitting his desire to cap his remarkable career with silverware. However, Levy upheld his stubborn stance and refused to allow his prized asset to depart North London.
During an interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap last May, Kane declared: "For me it is, I don’t want to have come to the end of my career and have any regrets. So, I want to be the best that I can be. I’ve said before, I’d never say that I’d stay at Spurs for the rest of my career. I’d never say that I would leave Spurs."
As this summer's transfer window edges ever closer, speculation is rife that Kane could once again be a prime target for rival clubs, with Manchester United heavily linked of late. While on international duty last week, Kane once again fuelled speculation of an impending move as he refused commit his long-term future to Spurs.
The striker admitted: "My main focus is finishing this season, I can’t control what’s going to happen in the future. I want to be going into that tournament [the 2022 World Cup ] in the best form possible."
