Treatment was required by Joe Gelhardt at Elland Road on Monday night as he limped off with what has been described as a dead leg during the first half of Leeds United’s Premier League 2 clash with Crystal Palace. The 19-year-old began the match just two days after half an hour from the bench with the first team on Saturday and was predictably catching the eye when faced with under-23 opposition.
Gelhardt was left out of the Leeds line-up at Molineux last month after suffering with a back problem, but he returned to the field at the weekend. In the 37th minute of Monday’s game, Gelhardt went down near the centre circle and required treatment before hobbling off under his own steam.
Head of medicine and performance Rob Price, who had been watching on in the John Charles Stand, hot-footed it down to the dugout for a prognosis from the striker. Gelhardt could be seen pointing to the back of his left thigh. Price confirmed to the technical staff the striker should come off and they went down the tunnel together.
