Joe Flacco excelled in his first two games with the Browns, as the veteran went 1-1 with 565 passing yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. That was enough for Cleveland to officially sign Flacco to their active roster off the practice squad, and the team made sure to incentivize the quarterback’s deal to reward him should he continue to lead the Browns to victory.
As part of Flacco’s one-year deal, the veteran has the chance to earn $4.05 million based on winning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Flacco will get $75,000 for every regular season Browns win, $250,000 for a wild card round win, $500,000 for a divisional round win, $1 million for an AFC championship game win and $2 million for a Super Bowl win.
Cleveland initially signed Flacco to the team’s practice squad when it needed insurance after Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury. He then started in Week 13 for Cleveland, a loss to the Rams, before defeating the Jaguars last week for his first victory.
The Browns are currently 8-5 and hold a wild card spot in the AFC playoffs. Despite a carousel of quarterbacks, Cleveland has been able to ride their strong defense to a playoff position. The Browns have four games left in the season, home games against the Bears and Jets and road games against the Texans and Bengals, and currently hold an inside track to making the playoffs.
