Joe Burrow, Zac Taylor comment on Bengals’ inaction at trade deadline

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow says the team didn’t consult with him about moves at the trade deadline, which isn’t out of the ordinary.

But Burrow did speak on the team’s inaction at the deadline, acknowledging the injury woes the team faces.

“I feel really good about where we’re at,” Burrow said, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.. “We’ve had some injuries and continue to have some injuries, but we’re also getting some guys back here hopefully pretty soon. We gotta right the ship until we get some of those guys back, gotta find ways to win games, guys gotta step up. That’s part of the NFL.”

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor kept things vague and along the same lines, as captured by ESPN’s Ben Baby:

Given the team’s history, fans probably shouldn’t have expected too much at the trade deadline. That changed a bit with the injury to No. 1 corner Chidobe Awuzie, but a waiver claim might help the team there. That said, fans certainly aren’t unreasonable for wanting to see the team make big moves while the championship window is so open.

Sans a move, the Bengals will ask big things of rookies Dax Hill and Cam Taylor-Britt in the secondary. If nothing else, the team also seems hopeful DJ Reader and Ja’Marr Chase will be back sooner than later.
