Former Cincinnati Bengals star left tackle Andrew Whitworth was cheering for his old team to meet his Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.
He also played something of an underrated role in the Bengals getting there at all.
During the media scrum before the big game, Joe Burrow revealed that Whitworth was a big part of his rehab process, per Marisa Contipelli of the team’s official website: “(Whit) made the rehab process a little easier for me being in California away from a lot of people that are close toe me. He took me in… he’s become a good friend.”
Burrow handled much of his rehab out west after Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the operation. Funnily enough, now he’ll be on the opposite sideline of ElAttrache, the Rams’ head doctor, during the Super Bowl.
Burrow’s been very adamant about pointing out those who helped him get to this point. Right after the AFC title game, his physical therapist was one of the first people he sought out and thanked in the locker room.
In 2020, Joe Burrow & Andrew Whitworth spent time rehabbing together, even spending their birthday's together: " (Whit) made the rehab process a little easier for me being in California away from a lot of people that are close toe me. He took me in… he's become a good friend."
