Joe Burrow’s great play in rematches bodes well for AFC title game vs. Chiefs

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been superb in rematches this season.

That’s a pretty important talking point considering his Bengals head to the AFC title game against the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday for a rematch of a Week 17, Cincinnati win.

In his second game against Baltimore this year, Burrow threw for 525 yards and four scores. In his second meeting with Pittsburgh, he threw for 190 and one score. And in his second meeting with Las Vegas — in the wild card round — he threw for 244 yards and two scores.

So, seven touchdowns, one interception and 959 yards across three rematches.

Now, full disclosure — all of those rematches went down in Cincinnati at home. And all three of the initial meetings were wins, too. But we’re talking about defenses that had a chance to review the first game, adapt and overcome Burrow. His skill and adaption — and that of those around him — produced wins in rematches, anyway.

So it bodes pretty well for the Bengals going into the rematch against the Chiefs, especially considering on January 2, he torched them for 446 yards and four touchdowns. Those Chiefs are also dealing with at least one notable injury to the secondary suffered last weekend.

This, of course, doesn’t guarantee the Bengals will be AFC champs and advance to the Super Bowl. But it’s another illustration of how betting against Burrow doesn’t get folks far.
