Joe Burrow injury outlook updated by insider before Week 5

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow isn’t 100 percent entering Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Still, a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini on Sunday morning says that the positive strides made could equate to the playbook opening up a bit:

An offer for Bengals fans

Burrow is still a few weeks away in terms of health, according to a team source, but we may see some glimpses of improvement this afternoon against the Arizona Cardinals. It was a better week for the Bengals, another team source said, and the calf has improved. Burrow had more mobility during practice, and the Bengals are expected to open up the playbook some more today.

This meshes nicely with what we saw publicly from Burrow and Co. during the week, as he indeed looked more mobile than usual.

Granted, this doesn’t mean the high-flying offense of the last two years returns, especially with Tee Higgins out due to a rib injury. But if Burrow can move a little better in the pocket and even on designed moving pockets and the offense can open up, it will make it quite a bit harder for the Cardinals to defend.

This, of course, comes at a time when the Bengals are 1-3 and Burrow walks the tightrope of trying to play while not making the injury worse, which would reset the whole process over again.
