The “Monday Night Football” booth in 2022 apparently will sound a lot like FOX Sports’ big NFL games has for many years.
The New York Post reported Friday the Worldwide Leader is on the verge of landing Joe Buck as its play-by-play voice to join Troy Aikman.
They have been a tandem for decades at FOX.

On Friday, Fox granted Buck permission to talk with ESPN, according to sources. A deal is expected to come to fruition shortly.
With Fox, Buck had one-year at $11 million remaining on his contract. Fox, though, is letting him out early as a good gesture for his years of service to the company. He is expected to sign a contract in the five-year, $60-$75 million range with ESPN, according to sources.
Buck is also expected to be involved in producing ESPN projects, according to the Post.
Reports over the past weeks have had Aikman heading to ESPN on a five-year, $92.5 million contract.
Where this leaves FOX Sports’ NFL “A” team and its lead voice on the World Series is intriguing. Buck has been FOX’s lead on both sports.
FOX Sports has the Super Bowls in 2023 and ’25, so Buck would be passing on an opportunity to call play-by-play in two of the next three NFL championships should he leave for ESPN.
