Kilkenny outlasted Galway in an underwhelming Leinster final that was immediately overshadowed once again by the interaction between their respective managers at full-time.
The sequel to 'handshake-gate' somehow lived up to the hype as RTE cameras remained fixated on Brian Cody and Henry Shefflin as Cody made his way around the pitch shaking hands with anyone he came across whilst Shefflin was rooted to his spot with a bitterly disappointed expression etched upon his face.
Eventually Shefflin made his way onto the Croke Park surface and approached his former coach with their brief exchange generating a large ironic cheer from the crowd.
However, many commentators speculated that there is still a bitterness between the pair as they pointed to how the 43-year-old shook his head quite a few times as they separated.
Joe Brolly was among those who thought it was a token exercise as he tweeted: "A classic example of the 'get this over with' handshake."
While someone else speculated: "Bit of mind-games going on when the whistle was blown.
"Shefflin wouldn't move from his spot, Cody out on the pitch goading him to come out and shake his hand.
"Henry shaking his head at the end knowing he made him come over his side of the pitch to shake hands for the cameras."
And another fan added: "Huge well done to the great Henry Shefflin for being the first to go over and shake Brian Cody's hand. That's the true mark of the man, always respectful."
As for the game itself, The Cats didn't even have to be at their best as Galway were not only wasteful in front of goal but also lacked creativity as it was largely left to Conor Whelan to plough a lonely furrow inside.
The second half in particular devolved into a glorified free-taking contest between Conor Cooney and TJ Reid.
But while Reid was able to negotiate hitting into a swirling wind with remarkable ease, Cooney did rack up some costly wides that ultimately saw them fall to a 0-22 to 0-17 defeat.
The match certainly wasn't helped though by being played at a half-empty Croke Park as it never threatened to spark into life.
