Joe Biden Ireland: Road closures as Dublin Airport, Phoenix Park and Dail Eireann set for visit from US President

The public are being warned to plan ahead and be prepared for diversions as US President Joe Biden is set to visit Dublin on Wednesday and Thursday.

He will land into Dublin Airport on Wednesday and visit there throughout the trip. While the transport hub is expected to operate as normal, there could be some diversions and traffic delays heading there throughout the four-day visit.

Gardai have said that the trip will be concentrated on Dublin on Thursday, April 13. He will visit the Phoenix Park and south Dublin city centre.

Parking restrictions are already in place on Earlsfort Terrace, Leeson Street Lower, Hatch Street Lower, Castle Street and Ship Street since 7am this morning. They will remain in place until Saturday April 15.

Then on Tuesday from 7am Earlsfort Terrace will shut completely to traffic. Pedestrian access to businesses will be via Hatch Street only. This will also be in place until Saturday.

Wednesday and Thursday will see the Phoenix Park, including Dublin Zoo, shut to the public from 5pm Wednesday until 5pm Thursday. There will only be local and essential access to the park.

A garda spokesman said: "Specific details on further local road closures, parking restrictions and traffic diversions for Louth, Dublin and Mayo will be published in the coming days.

"Our objective is to continue to share as much information with the public where necessary as soon as we are in a position to do so. We would ask members of the public to heed the advice and instructions of Gardaí and we thank them for their continuing co-operation.

"Members of the Public travelling in the affected areas are be asked to plan their journeys during this period to ensure to leave enough time for possible traffic disruptions and to expect some localised delays."
