Joe Aribo shuts down Rangers transfer talk amid Aston Villa and Crystal Palace links

Joe Aribo has given transfer speculation linking him with a move away from Rangers the short shrift.

The Nigerian international has attracted interest from Crystal Palace after rediscovering the form that made him one of the Ibrox club’s star performers earlier in the campaign.

A reunion with Steven Gerrard has also been mooted, with Aston Villa also considering a big money move for compatriot Calvin Bassey.

Aribo didn’t hit those same heights after returning from the African Cup of Nations in January.

But the midfielder was back to his best during the run-in and netted the opener for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side in their Europa League Final shoot-out defeat to Frankfurt last month.

He also led the line as Rangers ended their Scottish Cup drought with a 2-0 extra-time triumph against Hearts at Hampden three days later.

Aribo is currently with the Super Eagles squad as they look to qualify for AFCON once again. They face Sierra Leone and Mauritius in their upcoming qualifiers.

And that’s the only thing on his mind right now rather than any potential return to England.

"I'm not focused on that,” he told All Nigeria Soccer.

"Right now I'm with Nigeria so I'm just focusing on playing with my country and representing my country."

When pressed again by countrymen reporters, Aribo said simply: "Like I said I'm not focused on all of that stuff, I'm just focusing on Nigeria right now."
