Joe Aribo Rangers transfer latest as Premier League club to 'spend big' in pursuit of marathon man

English Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest are leading the race to sign Rangers playmaker Joe Aribo, according to reports.

The Nigerian international has proven his fitness credentials during the season just gone, playing over 70 times for club and country in a campaign that included a goal in May's Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt, which was eventually lost on penalties.

Form on such stages though has attracted attentions for the man Rangers signed from Charlton Athletic in 2019 for £300,000.

Forest are back in the big time and want to 'spend big' on Aribo to ensure they land him, according to the Scottish Sun. He is in the final year of his contract and billionaire Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is keen to make sure they avoid heading straight back to the Championship.

He has already sanctioned a club record £17million deal for Union Berlin striker and Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi.

Scoring nine goals and registering 10 assists last term, Aribo has emerged as a key player for boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The 25-year-old is the latest player to be linked with moving away from the Scottish Cup holders after Sevilla were rumoured to be interested in striker Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers are back in competitive action at the end of July against Livingston as Premiership action gets underway ahead of their Champions League qualifiers.
