Joe Aribo issues Rangers never say die title pledge after 'upsetting' Dundee United point

Joe Aribo reckons Lady Luck deserted Rangers at Tannadice but vowed the Ibrox side won’t be posted missing in the title run-in.

The champions wasted a string of chances against Tam Courts’ Dundee United side as they were forced to settle for a point.

Aribo’s late goal squared the match up after Ross Graham’s opener for the Tangerines but there was no winner despite a Gers cavalry charge in the final stages.

While Aribo insists a draw was better than nothing, there’s no denying just how damaging it is to Ibrox hopes of retaining their title.

But Aribo insists his team are still determined to fight all the way to the finish line.

Asked if his goal could have sealed a point which could yet prove vital, he told RangersTV: “Definitely. We are going to keep pushing for every single game that we play.

“We want to win every single game. Today is one that is disappointing but to take away a point instead of getting zero is better than nothing to be fair.”

But the anguished playmaker could not hide his frustration after blowing a major chance to heap the pressure on Ange Postecoglou ’s men, who kicked off an hour after the final whistle at Tannadice.

Asked to sum up his emotions, he said: “Very frustrated. Disappointed because we’ve gone and had a lot of chances and played very well but the result has just not shown that. It is very upsetting.

“We had to take more shots, we needed to get the ball in and around the area and make it harder for their defenders.

“That is what we had to do in the second half and that is what we did. We just couldn’t get lucky enough to get the second goal that we were pushing for.

“We were pretty unlucky. There were a lot of good moments in the game today but we need to be a bit more ruthless in front of goal and take our chances that came along.”

Rangers floated up the A9 on a wave of optimism after their sensational win in the Westfalenstadion on Thursday.

Now Aribo has urged his team to forget about their tame Tannadice display and refocus on dumping Dortmund out when they arrive in Glasgow looking to overturn a 4-2 deficit this week.

He said: “We need to dust ourselves off and recover and look towards Thursday night because it is going to be a massive game and we need to be ready to go.”
