Joe Aribo in Rangers transfer twist as Aston Villa route clears but Steven Gerrard thinks twice

Aston Villa are not considering a move for Joe Aribo despite a route clearing for the Nigerian, according to fresh reports down south.

The attacking midfielder was one of Rangers ' top performers last season but he's one of a number of Ibrox stars being linked with an exit this summer. Along with Alfredo Morelos, he's out of contract in 12 months, and it's been heavily mooted that Gers could sell now to mitigate the risk of losing him for free.

Gio van Bronckhorst will be reluctant to lose him unless a major offer arrives for the 25-year-old but their resolve is expected to be tested at some stage. Among his potential suitors in England, Crystal Palace are interested, while Nottingham Forest are believed to be keen, while Villa have been credited with keeping tabs on him ahead of a potential reunion with Steven Gerrard.

According to the Express and Star , attacking midfielder Morgan Sanson is set to join Galatasaray, seemingly paving the way for them to lodge a bid for Aribo. But they claim he is "not of interest" to the Premier League side.

They also rule out an approach for West Ham's Tomas Soucek, with Chelsea's Conor Gallagher tipped elsewhere as the man to solve their midfield problems. The England cap impressed at Palace last season and is believed to be available.

It's a similar situation at Nottingham Forest with the top-flight new boys closing in on a deal for Domen Crnigoj instead. Fulham have been tipped as another potential destination and as things stand it seems they face a London battle with Palace.

Aribo managed an impressive nine goals and ten assists for Gers last season as he racked up an almighty 70 games for club and country - becoming the only top-flight player in Europe to do so. They could land a fee north of £10m despite his contract status and that would be a healthy return on the £300,000 paid to land him from Charlton in 2019.
