Speaking of her new role, Jodie said: "My character is ordinary and extraordinary. Both her very personal life and the world around her have been turned upside down and she is dealing with the unknown at every turn. Her story is about the quiet heroics of determination, devotion, bravery and love."
Joining Jodie in the cast of the film are Benedict Cumberbatch, Katherine Watson, Mark Strong and Gina McKee. It will be based on the novel of the same name by Megan Hunter.
Elsewhere, Jodie's West End play Prima Facie recently set an impressive record as it became the highest-grossing event cinema release ever. It raked in a whopping £4.47 million.
The one-woman show, written by Susie Miller, will move to Broadway in the US. In the stage play, Jodie plays a barrister who specialises in defending rapists, though has her perspective changed when she is raped.
