Jodie Comer tells ITV Lorraine Brookside inspired her to be an actress

Emmy award-winning actress Jodie Comer has revealed that Brookside inspired her to be an actress.

The 26-year-old was speaking to ITV Lorraine's Los Angeles correspondent Ross King following the Emmys ceremony on Monday.

After being asked what inspired her, she said: "Brookside. I'm not even messing.

"That's what I remember watching as a kid."

The Channel 4 soap, based in Liverpool ran on TV for 21 years from 1982 to 2003 and is remembers for storylines like the 'body under the patio' and the lesbian kiss.

Jodie, who hails from Childwall , also said that despite her US success, she stays grounded by always coming back to Liverpool.

The Killing Eve star said: "Life has defiantly changed, but I still live at home and no one in my family will let me get too big for my boots."

Jodie took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as assassin Villanelle at the 71st Emmy Awards in LA.

During her acceptance speech she apologised to her mum and dad for failing to invite them to the ceremony.

Who is Jodie Comer?

She said: "My mum and dad who are in Liverpool, who I didn't invite because I didn't think this was going to be my time.

"One, I'm sorry. Two, I love you and I'm going to bring it home."

And perhaps this Emmy will go on the same Liverpool pub crawl her Bafta did.

Her proud mum and dad took her Bafta around their favourite haunts earlier this year.

Speaking to The Guardian , the actress said she watched Game Of Thrones and had a burger for breakfast the day after winning, while her parents took the Bafta back to Childwall.

She said they have named the accolade 'Billy' taking it back to Liverpool on the train following the ceremony in London.

Jodie said: "My dad had it out on the train, and this woman went: ‘That’s not from Poundland, is it?’ This other woman said: ‘Is that the real thing?’ He said, ‘Yeah, do you want to touch it?’"

She added: "They took it on a pub crawl. They were so proud."
