Jodie Comer has received a Tony award nomination for her role in the play Prima Facie.
The actress, from Childwall, shot to fame for her role as Villanelle in Killing Eve, and she's since starred in Hollywood blockbuster Free Guy across Ryan Reynolds. Now, she's starring in a solo actor play on Broadway after a hugely successful run at the National Theatre in London.
The play was Jodie's West End debut starring as Tessa, a young barrister who has worked her way up to the top of her game from working class origins. The entire play is just Comer on stage, and was directed by Justin Martin and written by Suzie Miller.

The play follows Comer defending a man accused of rape, but she begins to struggle with the job when she herself is assaulted. She is currently performing in the play on Broadway as part of a 10-week run at the Golden Theatre in New York until June 18.
Jodie Comer will go up against Jessica Chastain, Jessica Hecht and Audra McDonald for the Best Leading Actress in a Play award. Prima Facie has also been nominated for Best Scenic Design, Best Sound Design, and Best Lighting Design of a Play, although it missed out on a nomination for Best New Play, with nominations going to Ain't No Mo', Between Riverside and Crazy, Cost of Living, Fat Ham, and Leopoldstadt.
This year’s 2023 Tony Awards, hosted by Ariana DeBose, will take place on June 11 in New York. Currently, musical Some Like It Hot has picked up the most nominations overall, with 13 nominations.
This is far from Comer's first award ceremony, as she was nominated and won both an Emmy and a BAFTA for her role in Killing Eve.
