Jockey bravely carries on after being given 'little kick in the a**e'

Jockey Jody McGarevy escaped serious damage after he was given a "little kick in the a**e" by his horse moments before a race.

The Coleraine man was left in agony by his ride, the aptly named 'Emotional Damage', before a run at Naas last Thursday.

The 32-year-old was attempting to mount the Gordon Elliott-trained horse in the parade ring before the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle when it reared up and lashed out at McGarvey, appearing to strike the unfortunate jockey in the calf.

McGarvey was clearly in some pain and his participation in the race looked in serious doubt as he hobbled away following the incident.

Thankfully though the jockey was able to take part finishing ninth at the County Kildare course after suffering only minor damage.

Thankfully McGarvey was left with no lasting physical or emotional damage and was able to see the funny side of it all after a clip of the incident was shared on Twitter by horse racing pundit Kevin Blake.

The County Derry rider responded tweeting: "Got a little kick in the a**e today!"

McGarvey's bravery for carrying on was praised by fans on Twitter.

"Looked pretty painful, well done for carrying on," one said, while another agreed: "Fair play to you for carrying on." Others rather appropriately replied: "Ouch."
