Irvine is poised for a jobs boost amid council plans to sell strategic investment land to a joinery firm.
Councillors are set to consider a proposal by North Ayrshire Council to sell two acres of land within Irvine's i3 area to System Five Off Site Ltd.
The business - established by local company RDK Construction Ltd – want to develop a manufacturing facility and related offices for the production of modular buildings and timber components. These would be assembled off-site, supplying commercial, residential and leisure projects.
If approved, around 11 jobs will be created in the first year with this doubling in a further two years.
The proposal complies with the local development plan for the area but the company will need to obtain planning permission before any works can commence.
Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Economy and Climate Change, said: “The i3 area of Irvine is an extremely important strategic site and. we are delighted that we are using a small portion of the land to support the economic ambitions of a local company.
“A variety of flexible space in different formats are already being designed and delivered over a number of phases to suit market requirements, while we are pressing forward with our partners to deliver a new Digital Processing Manufacturing Centre.
“The area is in a prime location and in coming months and years will become a real hub for innovative industries.
“We wish System Five Off-Site Ltd every success in their endeavours.”
The i3 site on the eastern edge of Irvine has an overall area of 205 acres (83 ha) with a 600m long road dissecting the site into northern and southern areas.
The strategic investment location also benefits from Ayrshire Growth Deal investment of up to £21 million to develop a regionally significant and nationally recognised centre of excellence in Digital Automation – with the first phase of the Digital Process Manufacturing Centre already being developed and a programme of flexible advanced manufacturing space.
