Joao Palhinha gives update on Fulham future during January transfer window

Joao Palhinha has insisted he will give his all for Fulham before eventually leaving the club.

The Portuguese midfielder was given permission to fly to Bavaria on transfer deadline day in the summer, but his £58million move to Bayern Munich broke down just hours after he arrived when Fulham failed to sign a replacement.

Within a fortnight he had signed a new contract with the club, extending his deal at Craven Cottage until 2028 with an option for a further year.

The £17m signing from Sporting CP is still on Bayern’s list of midfield targets — and has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool — but Fulham’s high asking price is seen as off-putting for potential suitors.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Fulham’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg tie against Liverpool on Wednesday, Palhinha said: “I’ve always said that I feel the love that the supporters have for me.

"I know that someday I will leave Fulham. I want to give everything. I’m always 100 per cent professional here, and I will do my job every time that I play for Fulham.”

He added: “This is why I always wanted to come here: to come to the best league in the world. My family looked for the best league for my game and where I fit better.

“It’s something that is important for me and for the club, because they’ve never won this cup. When you win a title — it can be Carabao [Cup], can be FA Cup — every title is important.”
