Chelsea have decided against signing Joao Felix permanently, Atletico Madrid have confirmed.
The Blues took advantage of Felix's strained relationship with Atleti head coach Diego Simone to bring the young forward to Stamford Bridge on loan in January. Chelsea paid around £9million for a six-month loan fee, along with taking on the Portugal international’s wages.
Felix was sent off on his debut against Fulham but then scored and won man of the match in his next game a month later. Felix leaves Stamford Bridge with four goals in 15 games after new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino had decided against extending the deal.
Atleti president Enrique Cerezo said on Tuesday: “We have been informed that Poch does not count with Joao Felix for Chelsea. He will return here."
