Joanna Gaines designed a sentimental 'tiny museum of springtime' in her kitchen – it's a seasonal feature you can recreate for under $100

When we consider ways to accessorize our walls, artwork and framed photographs typically come to mind. However, display cases are a fantastic way to combine the artistic elements of hanging printed work with the personalization of a cabinet.

Joanna Gaines has put a specific display cabinet on our radar with her latest Instagram post, in which she shares that her homeware brand, Magnolia, has come up with a gorgeous iteration as part of their spring collection (it's giving us some major spring decor ideas).

'I’ve been playing around with different items that I want to display—pinning photos, dried florals, and some treasures from Crew,' Joanna states in the caption of the post. 'Today, it’s a tiny museum of springtime inspiration that's hanging near my kitchen.'

Much like an open shelving unit, display cases allow for full transparency, so what you place inside them is just as important as how the case itself looks.

'My approach to crafting visually interesting, well-balanced shelf displays is to treat them like a gallery space, where a skillful use of negative space is just as important as what you’re putting on display,' says Laura Hammett, the Creative Design Director of the eponymous London-based design studio, Laura Hammett Living. 'The trick to perfectly harmonious bookshelves is to not overcrowd them.'

We can see that Joanna has opted for a mix of dried flowers and photographs, but there are truly endless options for personalization with a shadow box-style case.

The exterior of the case is also beautiful, with a thin brass frame and glass display.

'We wanted to reimagine the classic display case, but design one with beautiful brass edging and a linen interior,' Joanna explains in the caption. 'I love this display cabinet so much bc it's a beautiful way to highlight the very best pieces of your story.'

Whether you're looking for creative ways to display family photos or want to stray away from the traditional practice of hanging wall art, a shadow box frame could be the solution for you.

Get creative with display items; try placing a mix of natural materials, such as dried flowers and paper, with trinkets and ephemera.
