Jinkx Monsoon, the two-time RuPaul's Drag Race champion, is set to make a return to the stage in the hit Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors. Monsoon will be taking on the role of Audrey, marking the first time a non-binary actor will portray the character in the production's five-year history at the Westside Theatre in New York City.
Little Shop of Horrors, based on the 1960 movie of the same name, follows the story of Seymour, a florist who discovers a rare and carnivorous plant that he names Audrey II after his crush, Audrey. The musical, with book by Howard Ashman, originally premiered in 1982 and has since become a beloved classic.
Monsoon expressed their excitement at playing Audrey, a role they once considered out of reach. The drag queen, who grew up admiring the iconic Ellen Greene performance, sees this opportunity as a thrilling honor to bring Audrey to life in a new light while paying homage to the character's origins.
Joining Monsoon on stage will be Corbin Bleu as Seymour and James Carpinello as Dr. Orin Scrivello, D.D.S. Producer Robert Ahrens expressed enthusiasm for the new cast members and the creative possibilities they bring to the production.
