A video from the 2021-22 NBA season recently resurfaced showing Nuggets star Nikola Jokić getting into a physical altercation with former Heat forward Markieff Morris, which prompted Miami forward Jimmy Butler to exchange words with a Denver player who appeared to be Jokić.
Butler was asked about the heated moment from two years ago at his press conference ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Heat and the Nuggets. The Eastern Conference finals MVP cleared the air on what really happened.
“There’s a lot of stuff about that situation people don’t understand, but that’s in the past,” Butler said Wednesday, via DenverSports.com’s Jake Shapiro. “I wasn’t talking to Jokić—that wasn’t my beef. The individual I was talking to knows who I was talking to.”
The forward did not clarify who he was speaking to in that moment.
Butler emphasized there is no beef with Jokić and that he doesn’t expect there to be any bad blood carried over from that incident into this year’s Finals.
The NBA Finals begin on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
