Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has put forth former Ohio State Buckeyes football coach Jim Tressel as his nominee for the position of Ohio's next lieutenant governor. Tressel, who also has experience serving as a university president, was described by DeWine as 'a natural leader' during the announcement made at a recent news conference.
If approved, Tressel will be succeeding Jon Husted, who was selected by DeWine to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by JD Vance's election as vice president. The nomination now awaits approval from both the Ohio Senate and Ohio House.
Jim Tressel retired from his role as president of Youngstown State University a year and a half ago. Prior to that, he had a successful tenure as the head coach of Ohio State University's football team from 2001 to 2010. Under Tressel's leadership, the Buckeyes secured the national championship in 2002 and clinched six Big Ten championships.
