Jim Thompson has recruited award-winning artist Pichaya "Nuss" Osothcharoenpol for the first collection to kick off its “Artists In Residence” series before passing the baton to two more artists later this year.
Nuss, who goes by the artist alias “Pichaya O”, is best known for her creative take on combining digital techniques with hand-drawn images. She is no stranger to working with local and global brands and was one of 16 artists to participate in Art For The Future, a Unicef programme that helps children realise their dreams through art. Her works have been exhibited at several leading art and design shows, and she earned Thailand's prestigious DEmark Award in 2017 and 2021.
Ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration on Jan 22, Pichaya O hops into the Year Of The Rabbit with a festive collection that draws inspiration from Chinese beliefs. Taking wearers on a journey through exquisite yet meaningful patterns, her print designs centre around this year's animal zodiac, the black rabbit, which represents intelligence, health and longevity. Complementing the bunny are drawings of flowers and auspicious trees, like pine and pomegranate trees, that bring good luck and success to wearers.
"It's like wishing a happy new year to each Jim Thompson customer through every item I design", says the artist.
The new collection, which includes men’s and women’s wear, is done up with Jim Thompson's innovative "Easy Care" technology, which allows easy machine washing and ironing without needing dry cleaning. Highlight pieces to pull off the look for this Chinese New Year celebration include a patterned sleeveless mandarin top and a linen belted wrap midi dress.
